Skin Cancer
Sun safety practices, such as using sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or greater, wearing protective clothing, hats and sunglasses, and seeking shade during peak sun exposure times, can prevent many types of sunburn, a major risk factor for skin cancers.
Current activities include:
- Providing information annually about skin cancer awareness at a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game
- Presenting or exhibiting at various events, including at least two professional conferences.
- Distributing educational materials to partner organizations.
- Administering the No Sun for Baby Program (funded by the New England Melanoma Foundation) to Maine hospitals with birthing units.
