Treatment
The goal of cancer treatment is to cure the person with cancer or control the progression of the disease while maintaining the highest quality of life possible. The Consortium has identified seven focus areas related to cancer treatment. They include:
- Accreditation through the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
- Use of nationally recognized treatment guidelines
- Access to clinical trials
- Geographic access
- Financial access
- Access to information on treatment options
- Integrated treatment
Current activities include:
- Current priorities for cancer treatment include assessing utilization of national treatment guidelines
- Increasing patient knowledge of treatment options
- Promoting recruitment and enrollment in state and national clinical trials
- Promoting American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation
